orlando diaz-azcuy: a san francisco-based design genius known world wide.
i happen to be fortunate enough to work for a very inspiring man. i'd like to introduce you to him and his mid-century modern turned 21st-century chic penthouse.
orlando was born in cuba and came to the u.s. at a fairly young age. he opened his own firm, oda design associates, in 1987 and is recognized as one of the premier designers in the country. he works on top-notch commissions for both residential and commerical interiors and he designs collections for furniture manufacturers, including several for the sf-based mcguire furniture company. below is a collection of photos of his apartment high atop pacific heights ~ where his pared down interior architecture creates a drama-filled gallery for the finest art and antiques in his collection. he says of his place: "i didn't want the interior architecture to deny that it's in a high-rise. my goal was to achieve a light, fresh-air, california feeling in a building absolutely suitable for modern living."

"people think i never use color, but it isn't true. i love color! sometimes it's very subtle, sometimes it's not. in cuba, as a teenager, i once painted my family's living room shocking pink."
